History
The atomic number is 35 and the chemical symbol is Br. The name derives from the Greek bromos for stench or bad odor. It was first prepared by the German chemist Carl Lowig in 1825 but it was first publically announced in 1826 by Balard and so the discovery is therefore credited to the French chemist and pharmacist Antoine-Jerome Balard.Holden, Norman E., (2004).
